lilo-klinkenberg
Lilo Klinkenberg

Lilo Klinkenberg is a Berlin-born floral artist and designer whose practice moves between nature, sculpture and spatial design. Working with botanical materials as a sculptor might work with clay, she creates installations that shift between the organic and the constructed, often becoming architectural elements within the spaces they inhabit.

Form is at the centre of her work. Drawing on her background in fashion design at Berlin University of the Arts, Klinkenberg approaches plants and flowers as materials: leaves can become surfaces, branches structures, and botanical matter something closer to fabric or skin. Through changes in scale, repetition, colour and texture, familiar natural forms are abstracted into something less immediately recognisable.

Growing up in Berlin-Kreuzberg continues to shape her visual language. Her work is informed by contrasts and by the unexpected intersections of nature and the urban environment, finding beauty in things that might otherwise be overlooked.

Klinkenberg founded Studio Lilo in 2018 and has since developed an international practice spanning art, fashion, design and interiors. Alongside commissioned work for clients including Cartier, Loewe, Jil Sander, Flos and Google, she develops independent sculptural works and exhibitions. Her first solo exhibition, Is This Even Real, explored the space between the natural and the artificial, while Fragments, presented as part of Der Berliner Salon at the Bode Museum, reinterpreted the tradition of topiary through contemporary botanical sculpture.

More recently, her practice has expanded beyond ephemeral botanical material. Flowers For A Home, her textile collection with Bemz, translates her approach to colour, texture and botanical references into objects designed to remain, exploring the relationship between the temporary nature of flowers and the permanence of the spaces we live in.

Across these different mediums, Klinkenberg’s work is less concerned with decorating a space than with altering how it is perceived. Creating environments that feel at once familiar, strange and slightly unreal.

* Please note that working with Lilo may include large scale work including scaffolding and ladders.

See Lilo's work here.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0828/9756/8034/files/Lilo_IsThisEvenReal_2024_CharlottCobler_71.jpg?v=1793323702
